Men's Support Group:
A Space for Meaningful Conversations
Welcome, we are glad you are here.
This group was designed to create a space for men to build community through connecting with other men. We will work to establish a collaborative environment for shame-free exploration and discovery while finding value and validation in yourself as you share your experiences.
Societal expectations of masculinity have been a topic of interest for many years. Traditional views of what it means to be a man have often centered around traits such as strength, dominance, and emotional stoicism. However, as our understanding of gender and identity has evolved, so too have our expectations of what it means to be masculine.
Today, there is a growing recognition that masculinity can take many forms, and that there is no one "right" way to be a man. This has been reflected in popular culture, with media depictions of men becoming more diverse and inclusive. However, there is still a long way to go in terms of breaking down harmful stereotypes and expectations that can be detrimental to men's mental health and wellbeing.
Exploring masculinity and societal expectations is not only important for men themselves, but for society as a whole. By challenging the influences that we’ve grown up with and had modeled for us, we will begin to further create a world where everyone is free to be themselves.
Topics we may explore include:
-
Discussing masculinity and societal expectations
-
Building healthy relationships (e.g., isolation, infidelity)
-
Maintaining a work-life balance
-
Developing self-esteem and confidence
-
Navigating life transitions (e.g., divorce, loss of a job, relocation)
-
Improving communication skills and boundary setting
-
Dealing with grief and loss
-
Addressing wellness and mental well being
